COURSE PRESENTATION
Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nose and paranasal sinuses, predominantly mediated by type 2 inflammation and often associated with bronchial asthma and also atopic dermatitis. Over the years, treatment strategies have been based mainly on symptom control through the use of intranasal corticosteroids and courses of systemic corticosteroids in case of exacerbations. In case of non-control by maximal medical therapy, functional endoscopy surgery of the paranasal sinuses (FESS) was considered even if a significant percentage of patients does not achieve an acceptable level of disease control. Today, new biological drugs represent a valid therapeutic alternative that can offer good disease control in patients with severe, uncontrolled nasal polyposis. At the moment several monoclonal antibodies are available with this indication and choosing the right drug for the right patient is very important. The objective of this day is to provide scientific knowledge and all the useful elements for the correct management of the pathology, with the presentations of clinical cases in which partecipants will discuss with expert surgeons allergists and immunologists in an interactive way.
It has been a tradition to have a joined meeting “ Lucerne meets Ticino” on a yearly basis. We therefore welcome our colleagues from the “Zentralschweiz” for the afternoon session to attend extensive endoscopic surgeries and management of complications, even with a live dissection by P.J. Wormald.
